This medicine belongs to a group of medicines called biguanides. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (also called "non-insulin-dependent diabetes"), particularly in overweight patients, when diet and exercise alone are not enough to control blood glucose levels. This drug cannot replace the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Mode of administration:Oral use.
Dosage: Metformin should be taken during or after a meal. The usual starting dose is one tablet 2 or 3 times a day, given during or after meals. After 10 to 15 days, the dose should be adjusted based on blood glucose measurements.
