This medicine belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists, causing relaxation of blood vessels, which lowers blood pressure. Losartan slows the worsening of kidney function in patients with high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes. This medication is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure), can be used to protect the kidneys in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes, and in some cases, to treat patients with chronic heart failure.
